The Leftovers: Guilty Remnant posters and messages

In the HBO series The Leftovers a cult called the "Guilty Remnant" surrounds themselves with messages. These are seen both on the show itself as signs and posters and in the viral marketing related to the series. They were broght to my attention by book cover designer Daniel Benneworth-Gray who aptly describes the look:
The posters distract me every time they appear. Kind of Joy Division by way of Anthony Burrill.
My best guess is that the typeface is a modification of Cantoria with an exaggerated break in the 'B' and 'R', and — in the case of marketing material — artificially condensed. One interesting (if vague) connection for this font choice is that Cantoria is a style of type that was commonly used for intertitles in the silent film era, while members of the Guilty Remnant cult have taken a vow of silence. Hmm… A more probable rationale is that Cantoria's caps are not unlike the inscriptional lettering found on gravestones and memorials.
The designer of these pieces is not clear, but the series' production designer is Diane Lederman.
