"Ski Switzerland" travel poster—a rare (and unusual) example of the influence of the Swiss-design aesthetic on Herb Lubalin. Perhaps the influence of René Bittel, a Swiss designer working in NY at the time is more telling.
Designed at the Sudler & Hennessey agency, by Herb Lubalin and René H. Bittel. Photograph by Carl Fischer, 1959.
The top word (the S and K more prcisely) are set in Walter Hattenschweiler's Schmalfette Grotesk (now known as Haettenschweiler), the lower lines all use Grotesque No.9, which was part of Stephenson Blake's Grotesque series (aka Grotesk No. 9). An interesting and harmonious mix of two rather narrow grotesques.
Overall dimensions: 40×25 inches (100×70 cm).
