Typographically speaking, the Scottish Independence referendum is a bit of an international affair.
The nationalists opt for a simple "Yes" in tightly setNeue Haas Grotesk– a typeface with Swiss roots, revived by Christian Schwartz in New York.
Unionists have a bit more diverse message in their slogans, typefaces and colour palette. There's "No Thanks", set inOmnes(by Joshua Darden, New York); "I'm voting NO", pairing Microsoft'sSegoe(by Steve Matteson, Chicago) withNeo SansUltra (by Seb Lester, London); and an all-Neo Sans "Vote No".
Which of the two campaigns will win the most votes? The nationalist side clearly have the shortest and most uniform message. As for the palette, 2004 sport analysis proved that red is often the winning colour.
The Scottish Labour logo is in Paralucent (by Rian Hughes, London).
