Could the US government really save millions by changing font?
If you follow typographic news, or if you just read online news, you have probably seen this kid who promised that a simple change of font could save the US government $400 million. Hell, he even was interviewed on CNN for that.
While I appreciate Suvir Mirchandani's creative thinking and the solution he found, things may not be that easy after all.
Thomas Phinney, a typography blogger, took a closer look at the study and well… kind of ripped it apart. He argues that Garamond is smaller and should be set bigger, so the savings may not be that big after all. He also takes a look at the way government prints, which doesn't match the student's essay.
