Director Roman Coppola has long been a fan of airbrush art, as demonstrated in his 1999 music video for Mellow. This poster series by Percival and Associates clearly references the work of Dave Willardson, Peter Palombi, and designer/artist Charles E. White III on whom the movie is loosely based. But maybe better than Charlie Swan is this fantastic 1968 film (NSFW) of Charlie White painting on a nude body.
The type is an easy reference to 1970–80s design, ITC Souvenir, Ed Benguiat's goopy update of a Morris Fuller Benton face.
