The Signal and The Noise

Book jacket designers Jason Booher and Helen Yentus needed "something vaguely digital" for the book debut of Nate Silver – author of The New York Times' FiveThirtyEight blog. They opted for Plau, a sans-serif that has round corners and deliberately digital inspired shapes, such as in the 'w', 'v' and 'A'.
The concept and signal vs. noise is solved through the use of print production techniques, in this case embossing for the main title (signal) and the use of a slightly darker than background yellow for the noise.
Inside the jacket Plau is used for emphasis giving way to a more editorially suited Baskerville.
