This script on this cover designed by Louise Fili's studio is calligraphy or lettering, not type. There are many fonts in this English copperplate style — Novia probably comes closest — but none that match these letterforms, which are each purposefully distinct from one another. (Note, for instance, that each 'S' has its own swash.) The sans serif isBernhard Gothic, a classic choice for formal or "stylish" material from nearly a century ago — perhaps an ironic wink at the fact that this book is about contemporary writing.
