The cover designer made use of playful letterforms that go back to a script typeface designed byTreasury.

The digital Treasury font system comes with various styles that can be layered for a chromatic effect. Looking at the shading details suggests that the letters on the 1983 book cover were modeled after a cut somewhere between the two that became Treasury Gold (top) and Treasury Platinum (bottom) in Canada Type's version.
