ISType 2013: Istanbul Type Seminars

The third edition of ISType, a seminar devoted to encouraging typographic literacy in Turkey, will be held on June 13-16 at Sabanci University and SALT Galata. This year, the theme of the event will be "Stroke."

ISType aims to transmit, to share and to produce the knowledge regarding the past, the present and the future of typography by bringing together the students, academicians and the professionals.

The keynote speaker of the event is Robert Bringhurst, the author of the bestselling book "The Elements of Typographic Style." Other speakers include the independent writer and designer Jan Middendorp, who works as an editor and consultant for MyFonts; Erik van Blokland, co-designer of the highly experimental font Beowolf and one of the founders of LetTeRror; Luc(as) De Groot, the designer of the super font family Thesis and the director of FontFabrik; Akira Kobayashi, type director of Linotype and the producer of several of the fonts in Adobe Type Library; Irvin Cemil Schick, the author of "Writing the Body, Society, and the Universe: on Islam, Gender, and Culture" and academician; Mirjam Somers, en expert in production of Arabic fonts; Yves Peters the editor of FontFeed, and the designer educator Rainer Scheichelbauer.
