The third PBS ident was used from 1984 to 1989. The logo was principally developed by Tom Geismar of Chermayeff & Geismar. Along with a redesign of Herb Lubalin's 1971 "everyman" symbol, ITC Avant Garde Gothic was replaced with its slab serif brother, ITC Lubalin Graph. Read and see more on Container List.
